The celebration of the Feast of St. Benedict is an occasion when all from our daughter houses gather together at Kappadu. It was the same this year also. All were at Kappadu before the Evening Prayer of Ramsa on the 10th. The Festal Mass was at 11:30 p.m. The main celebrant was Mar George Madathikkandam, Bishop of the diocese of Kothamangalam. He is a former Rector and Professor of St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary, Vadavathoor, Kottayam. Four of our monks who studied Theology at Vadavathoor Seminary are his former students. Fr. Cherian Kanjirakkompil, one of the present Vicars General of Kothamangalam, a classmate of Abbot John at the Biblical Institute, Rome, a former Rector and Professor of St. Joseph’s Pontifical Seminayry, Alwaye, Kerala, and a former visiting professor at Kappadu, accompanied the Bishop. We had with us for Mass and lunch over 150 guests, all friends and neighbours of the monastery. In his homily the Bishop highlighted the importance and relevance of the Benedictine way of life today.
